Richard Phelps, 69, y Mitchell Wood, 60, se conocieron antes de Stonewall en 1966. En ese tiempo, Richard era un maestro necesariamente en el clóset de una escuela primaria Católica Romana y Mitchell era un asistente en un hospital local. "Hubo una chispa que jamás había ocurrido anteriormente", dice Richard. "Queríamos vernos una y otra... y otra, y otra vez".
Él continuó, "Finalmente nos dimos cuenta que nos estábamos enamorando. Decidimos vivir juntos y aquí estamos 40 años después — ¡más enamorados que nunca!"
Fanáticos del teatro en vivo, concierto y el ballet, tienen boletos de temporada para el Teatro Unicorn en Kansas City y el Heartland Men's Chorus. Son también fanáticos de deportes, con boletos de temporada para los NFL Kansas City Chiefs y el AFL Kansas City Brigade.
