Today, the United States Department of Justice announced that the federal government would respect the marriages of the 1,300+ same-sex couples in Utah who have been issued marriage licenses in the state since December 20, 2013.

Today at a news conference, New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez announced that she would oppose any proposed legislation for a constitutional amendment to restrict the freedom to marry to different-sex couples in New Mexico.

On January 6, 2013, the United States Supreme Court granted a request for a stay in the marriage ruling in Utah that established the freedom to marry across the state. The ruling will be stayed - meaning that same-sex couples in Utah will be temporarily unable to receive marriage licenses - pending the state's appeal to the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals.
