This week, a bipartisan group of mayors in Indiana came together to launch Mayors for Freedom, a new effort that speaks out against HJR-6, a proposed constitutional amendment that seeks to permanently ban all protections for same-sex couples and their families in Indiana.

This morning, December 2, the freedom to marry took effect in Hawaii, allowing same-sex couples across the state to finally share in the joys of marriage.

Last week, on November 27, Vernita Gray and Pat Ewert became the first same-sex couple ever to marry in Illinois. The women were granted an emergency marriage license by a federal court last Monday.

Today, Missouri Governor Jay Nixon issued an executive order to the Missouri Department of Revenue that allows same-sex couples who legally married in other states to jointly file their taxes for the state of Missouri.
