This week, Daniel Zavala finally was granted a green card, sponsored by his husband, Yohandel Ruiz. The men, who live in Miami, FL, married in Washington, D.C. on May 1, 2012, and in the past year and a half, they have worked hard to amplify the plight of married binational same-sex couples.

On January 14, 2014, U.S. District Judge Terence Kern ruled that laws in Oklahoma prohibiting same-sex couples from marrying are unconstitutional. The federal judge has also issued a stay on the ruling pending appeal.

Today, the United States Department of Justice announced that the federal government would respect the marriages of the 1,300+ same-sex couples in Utah who have been issued marriage licenses in the state since December 20, 2013.
