We have now won more freedom-to-marry states for same-sex couples (35) than we had won for interracial couples prior to the U.S. Supreme Court's historic ruling in Loving v. Virginia (34).

Today, same-sex couples rejoiced in South Carolina as some county officials began taking action and issuing marriage licenses. In other counties, advocates at South Carolina Equality and the Campaign for Southern Equality pushed for the implementation of the 4th Circuit ruling in SC.

Today, October 3, Missouri Circuit Court Judge J. Dale Youngs ruled that marriages between same-sex couples legally performed in other states must be respected in Missouri.

Last spring, I did something I've always wanted to do - I joined the U.S. Army, signing up to serve as a welder and machinist in the reserves. When I was younger, I watched in awe as my brother enlisted in the military, and ever since then, I've always known that I've wanted to serve my country. I wouldn't have been able to enlist without the unending support I've received from the love of my life, my partner of six years - my wife, Erin.

The Court's order list today did not include any of the cases seeking the freedom to marry. But just because the Court took no action on the marriage cases today does not mean that the marriage cases will not be considered during the 2014-2015 session.

While we wait for the U.S. Supreme Court to announce whether or not they will address the freedom to marry for same-sex couples this term by granting review in one or more of the 5 cases currently pending, a new report examines the devastating impact of marriage bans, as well as other discriminatory laws, on lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) Americans’ economic security.

Today, September 29, a new statewide poll conducted by Benenson Strategy Group for Freedom to Marry found that a plurality of Utahns – 49% in favor versus 48% opposed – agree that same sex-couples should be able to share in the freedom to marry and receive a civil marriage license in Utah.

Beginning on Sunday, a new national television advertisement released by Freedom to Marry will begin airing on Sunday morning network news shows in Washington, D.C. The 30-second spot declares "It's time" for the freedom to marry.

Today, September 22, Judge Edward Rubin of the 15th Judicial District Court ruled in favor of the freedom to marry in a state legal challenge to an amendment in Louisiana that denies same-sex couples the freedom to marry.
