President Obama reiterates support for the freedom to marry in DNC speech

In President Barack Obama's speech accepting the Democratic nomination for president, which closed the Democratic National Convention, he continued discussing LGBT issues in what amounts to a historic level of visibility for the LGBT community at a convention for a major U.S. political party.

Today, Julian Bond, chairman emeritus of the NAACP published an editorial about why the marriage campaign in Maryland matters. He says: "African Americans are now sitting around the dinner table talking about it and realizing at the end of the day it's about treating people fairly and making families stronger."
All-star concert featuring fun. and Rufus Wainwright to benefit Freedom to Marry

On October 30, a star-studded slate of musicians will join together in New York City for a benefit concert supporting the work of Freedom to Marry. The all-star line-up includes fun., The National, Rufus Wainwright, and They Might Be Giants. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the concert benefits Freedom to Marry.

The unveiling of the national party platform wasn't the only historic step forward last at last night's convention. We also saw one of the most pro-LGBT, pro-marriage slate of Democratic speakers ever take the stage and talk about how we can make this country better. It was almost unbelievable to see that speaker after speaker after speaker was an outspoken LGBT ally or openly gay or lesbian themselves.
Expedia supports the freedom to marry in Washington

Today, travel company Expedia announced their support for Washington's Referendum 74, the ballot measure to uphold the freedom to marry throughout the state. They're now the latest of dozens of businesses to speak out in support of the state's marriage law.
Poland expected to legislate civil partnerships for same-sex couples

Poland takes a big step toward respecting the love and commitment of same-sex couples by taking steps toward legislation to recognize same-sex couples in civil partnerships.The legislation would extend to same-sex couples some - but far from all - of the protections that marriage provides.
