This weekend, the Social Security Administration began processing retirement spouse claims for same-sex couples. For now, the payments are limited to couples living in states with the freedom to marry.

On Saturday, August 10, the U.S. Ambassador to Australia, John Berry, married his partner of 17 years, Curtis Yee, in Washington, D.C. The wedding comes as momentum for marriage builds in Australia.

As they exited the Pilgrim Chapel in Kansas City, MO flashing beaming smiles and holding each other's hands tightly, Susan McSpadden and Shannon Feldt followed the path of bright, shiny sparklers lit for them by their guests - their friends, family members, and colleagues who had come to watch them express their lifelong commitment for each other.

This week, Sean Sasser, an HIV/AIDS activist who appeared on The Real World: San Francisco in 1994, passed away. In 1994, MTV televised Sean's commitment ceremony to Pedro Zamora, the HIV-positive star of the third season of The Real World who died that year.
