Freedom to Marry extends our deepest condolences to Richard and to Joseph's family. Their story inspired the Mainers United team and all teams working toward ending the exclusion of same-sex coupels from marriage, reminding advocates what they are working so hard to achieve.

Corri Planck and Dianne Hardy-Garcia are riding a roller coaster. Since May 2008, when the California Supreme Court extended the freedom to marry to same-sex couples, Corri and Dianne, and other same-sex couples in California, have experienced momentous victories, crushing setbacks, and a relentless period of uncertainty about the future of marriage in the state.

In this year's Out 100, Out magazine's countdown of the 100 most compelling lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people in the world, the freedom to marry took center stage. In addition to profiling a number of outspoken advocates who have pushed for the freedom to marry, the magazine also spotlighted two of our favorite same-sex couples and a Freedom to Marry board member, Jordan Roth.

This week, ABC News reported that the congress in Uruguay may soon consider a law that would end the exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage. Same-sex couples in Uruguay can already share in civil union, and a marriage law approved by the congress would be the next step for the country in fully embracing the freedom to marry.

Today, Young Conservatives for the Freedom to Marry, a campaign to amplify and build support for the freedom to marry among young conservatives across the United States, announced that Meghan McCain will be joining the Leadership Committee for the campaign.

Yesterday, Mayor Rahm Emanuel of Chicago said that he would be pushing hard for a bill in the Illinois legislature that would extend the freedom to marry to same-sex couples in Illinois. He published a letter explaining that "the time is right" for a legislative push for marriage in Illinois,

Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court updated its case docket to reflect that it had rescheduled the date that it will consider whether it will review any marriage cases during its next session. The conference is now set for Friday, November 30.
