Today, Mayors for the Freedom to Marry welcomed its 300th member. 300 mayors from 32 states and the District of Columbia have signed the pledge to support marriage for same-sex couples, meaning the coalition has nearly quadrupled in size since launching last year.

It's big Valentine's Day for the freedom to marry - marriage supporters in Illinois, Minnesota, and Oregon have big movements planned today to take steps toward winning the freedom to marry for all couples across the country.

Last month, Matthew and Raymie participated in the Campaign for Southern Equality's "We Do" campaign by requesting a marriage license in Tennessee. After being denied the license, Raymie delivered a rousing, moving speech about why he wants to be able to call Matthew his husband. Watch the video here.

Today, the French National Assembly, the lower house of the Parliament in France, voted overwhelmingly in favor of a bill that would extend the freedom to marry and adoption opportunities to same-sex couples. The bill now faces consideration by the French Senate.

As the country continues to move forward on marriage, we take the time this week to celebrate the thousands of same-sex couples celebrating their first Valentine's Day as a married couple - and look forward to the day when all couples who want to marry can be married Valentines.

Today, the Colorado Senate approved a bill that would all same-sex couples to join together in civil union, which affords same-sex couples some - but not all - of the protections and responsibilities that marriage provides. Now, the bill will be considered by the CO House of Representatives.

Today, Sec. of Defense Panetta said he would extend new protections - including military ID cards and access to family support initiatives - to same-sex spouses of active members of the military. DOMA restricts the military from addressing larger concerns, including health care, housing, and survivor's benefits.

On Sunday, February 10, Chief Warrant Officer Charlie Morgan of the New Hampshire National Guard passed away after a courageous struggle with cancer. Freedom to Marry extends our deepest condolences to CW2 Morgan's wife Karen, daughter Casey Elena, and all of the Morgan family.

This week, Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton and Illinois Governor Pat Quinn delivered their "State of the State" addresses to outline overarching goals and priorities for 2013. Both governors used the opportunity to call for the freedom to marry and send a clear message to state residents that now is the time to end the exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage.
