In 2006, Jennifer and Lexi Chapin-Smith held a wedding ceremony in Maryland in the traditional Quaker tradition. Now, in 2013, they've had a legal ceremony, one that reaffirms their love and commitment for each other.

On Tuesday, the Rhode Island House Judiciary Committee held a hearing on a bill that would extend the freedom to marry to same-sex couples throughout Rhode Island. Supporters of the marriage law were able to share testimony on the bill. Check out 6 photos from the day of the hearing to catch up!

At the end of 2012, Tatjana Plitt successfully funded a Kickstarter campaign to fuel her journey across the United States to reach the dozens of same-sex military couples who have volunteered to lend their story and portrait to speak out against DOMA. We caught up with Tatjana to learn more about her project as she prepares for her journey!

In November, Minnesotans United for All Families, led the campaign to defeat an anti-gay constitutional amendment in Minnesota. Now, the organization is aiming to complete the cycle by winning marriage for same-sex couples across the state of Minnesota in 2013!

Yesterday, former Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel, who has been nominated to become Secretary of Defense in the Obama administration, sent a letter to Senator Barbara Boxer, where he affirmed his support for same-sex military couples and their families.

Last week, the Obama administration announced support for a bill in Rhode Island that would extend the freedom to marry to same-sex couples across the state. President Obama announced similar support for marriage legislation in his home state of Illinois last month.

On Sunday, dozens of business leaders signed onto a letter endorsing the freedom to marry in Illinois, explaining that ending the exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage would strengthen the workforce and increase economic development across the state.

Throughout all of their trials - as a same-sex military couple living under DADT, as a same-sex couple in the South, and as a same-sex couple standing up against the insecurities that DOMA causes their family - Army Lt. A new poll from Political Insiders in The National Journal indicates significant growth in support of ending the exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage. 97 percent of Democratic respondents and 27 percent of Republican respondents said that their respective parties should support the freedom to marry.
