In the New York State primaries this month, two Republican Senators who voted to approve the freedom to marry last year won their primary battles. Our opponents said they would defeat all of the Republicans who stood up for committed same-sex couples, but their failure shows that supporting the freedom to marry is not a political risk.

In November, Minnesotans will vote on a proposed constitutional amendment that would permanently limit the freedom to marry in the state. Today, the Austin City Council unanimously approved a resolution supporting the freedom to marry. The council is now the first city in Texas to officially declare support for ending the exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage.

As a wedding gift to her friends Chris and Carl, Lindsay Katt wrote and recorded "My Home," a song about the love they've shared for ten years. She produced a slideshow with the song and screened it during the wedding, and now the song is available on iTunes and other music distribution sites. All of the funds raised from "My Home" will be donated to Freedom to Marry. Read our Q&A with Lindsay!

Today, data company EMC Corporation announced their support for the freedom to marry by officially endorsing Washington United for Marriage, the coalition of pro-marriage organizations working to uphold the freedom to marry by approving Referendum 74 at the ballot on November 6.

Marylanders for Marriage Equality, the coalition working to uphold the existing freedom to marry law in the state, has had a busy week. Here are four ways the campaign has been working to push Question 6 this week - including an Adam Lambert concert, outspoken support from Gov. Martin O'Malley, and a united front from black clergy members and the NAACP.

Although they have been together for almost three years, Summer says that she and fiancé Celeste struggle to have their relationship recognized by the Army. This is largely due to the so-called Defense of Marriage Act, which forces the U.S. military to discriminate against same-sex couples and their families because it denies federal respect of marriages between same-sex couples.

Today, Minnesota state representative Tim Walz will lead the launch of Veterans United, a coalition of U.S. military veterans who oppose a proposed constitutional amendment banning the freedom to marry, which Minnesotans will vote on in November.

This week, Congressman James Clyburn became the 157th member of the House of Representatives to sign on as a cosponsor for the Respect for Marriage Act, the bill that would repeal the so-called Defense of Marriage Act. He also rounds out the support from the Democratic Leadership in the House.
