Tonight, August 25, the best and brightest in the television industry will come together for the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards, the annual awards ceremony honoring the year's best acting, writing, and production in television. This year's nomination roster is full of supporters of the freedom to marry and a number of openly LGBT stars.

Today, Knoxville mayor Madeline Rogero joined Mayors for the Freedom to Marry, a broad-based, nonpartisan coalition of nearly 500 mayors who are speaking up for why marriage matters for same-sex couples in their communities.

Today, Mayor Karl Dean of Nashville, Tennessee became the first mayor in Tennessee to join Mayors for the Freedom to Marry. With his support, the Mayors for the Freedom to Marry program now includes mayors from all 14 Southern states.

Today, August 21, U.S. District Court Judge Robert Hinkle ruled in favor of the freedom to marry in Florida, the first federal judge to strike down Florida's ban on marriage for same-sex couples.

Today, August 20, the United States Supreme Court granted a request for a stay in this summer's marriage ruling from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit that ordered the freedom to marry in Virginia and paved the way for the freedom to marry in North Carolina, South Carolina and West Virginia.

On August 19, 2014, U.S. District Court Judge Richard Young issued a new ruling on the freedom to marry, striking down marriage discrimination in Indiana as unconstitutional.

Today, one week after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit heard oral arguments in 6 landmark marriage cases, the Mayor of Cincinnati is voicing his support for the freedom to marry, urging the Court to affirm lower court rulings holding that banning same-sex couples from marriage is unconstitutional.

Today, August 13, the United States Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit denied a motion from defendant Michele McQuigg to grant a stay in the mandate of their marriage ruling from late last month.
