As the country continues to move forward on marriage, we take the time this week to celebrate the thousands of same-sex couples celebrating their first Valentine's Day as a married couple - and look forward to the day when all couples who want to marry can be married Valentines.

Today, the Colorado Senate approved a bill that would all same-sex couples to join together in civil union, which affords same-sex couples some - but not all - of the protections and responsibilities that marriage provides. Now, the bill will be considered by the CO House of Representatives.

Today, Sec. of Defense Panetta said he would extend new protections - including military ID cards and access to family support initiatives - to same-sex spouses of active members of the military. DOMA restricts the military from addressing larger concerns, including health care, housing, and survivor's benefits.

On Sunday, February 10, Chief Warrant Officer Charlie Morgan of the New Hampshire National Guard passed away after a courageous struggle with cancer. Freedom to Marry extends our deepest condolences to CW2 Morgan's wife Karen, daughter Casey Elena, and all of the Morgan family.

This week, Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton and Illinois Governor Pat Quinn delivered their "State of the State" addresses to outline overarching goals and priorities for 2013. Both governors used the opportunity to call for the freedom to marry and send a clear message to state residents that now is the time to end the exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage.

Today, legislative leaders from Indiana's House and Senate announced that they would not vote in 2013 on an anti-gay constitutional amendment that proposes to permanently limit the freedom to marry for same-sex couples. The move is the latest example of states in nearly every region of the country taking steps forward rather than backward on the freedom to marry.

Today, Freedom to Marry announced a 2013 drive to raise and invest $2 million through the Win More States Fund, with an initial goal of passing marriage bills in several states across the country - Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, and Rhode Island.

Navy Senior Chief Dwayne D.
