In September, Thomas Roberts, one of the lead anchors on MSNBC, will tie the knot with Patrick Abner, his partner of 12 years. The wedding will make him the first television news anchor to marry a same-sex spouse.

Last year, a video of Zach Wahls speaking before the Iowa House Judiciary Committee about why his lesbian mothers deserve the same protections from their marriage as married different-sex couples, And this month, keeping in line with his whirlwind year of advocacy, he's teaming up with One Iowa to talk about the importance of retaining the freedom to marry in the state and to make his message known even beyond the borders of Iowa.

For nearly two months, 53-year-old Richard Carey has been biking across the country in order to raise money for Freedom to Marry and raise awareness about why marriage matters for all loving and committed couples. Yesterday, he dipped the rear wheel of his bicycle in the Atlantic Ocean in Maine, signaling the end of his 3,667-mile journey from Washington state to Maine.

Following up on his statement from March that a law granting same-sex couples the freedom to marry in Delaware is "inevitable," Gov. Jack Markell said that the state legislature in Delaware would likely be taking up the issue soon - "probably within the next few years."

Why Marriage Matters Washington, a project from the Pride Foundation and Freedom to Marry, released their second video in their public information campaign focused on heightening support for the freedom to marry in Washington state. The new ad features a reverend and his wife talking about why they want their son, Jonathan, to be able to marry his long-term partner Ryan.

After months of increasing momentum in Australia, the freedom to marry may have gotten a huge push forward this weekend when Lara Giddings, the premier of Tasmania, announced that she supports marriage for same-sex couples.

Last month, Johnny Wandasan, a Resource Officer in the U.S. Army, joined with his partner Kenton in a civil union ceremony at the Hickam Air Force Base on July 6, 2012. It was the first same-sex civil union ceremony at the Hickam Officer's Club.

One of the speakers at our Young Conservatives launch event was Craig Stowell, who has spoken before about the intersections of his work as an advocate for the freedom to marry and his conservative ideology. Craig is a former member of the U.S. Marine Corps, and he asserts that he doesn't support marriage for all couples in spite of his conservative values, but rather because of them.

Earlier today, Tony-awarding winning theatre producer Joan Stein passed away after a long battle with cancer. Stein was a longtime supporter of the freedom to marry, and in recent years, she worked hard to combine her commitment to the theatre with her advocacy for the LGBT community.
