On Saturday, August 31, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg made history by presiding at a wedding for a same-sex couple. She is the first Supreme Court Justice ever to do so.

Today, U.S. District Judge Timothy Black ordered the State of Ohio to respect the marriage of a couple who wed this summer in Delaware. The ruling marks the second married same-sex couple to see their out-of-state marriage respected in Ohio in rulings ordered by Judge Black.

The judge wrote that there was no rational basis for the Department of Veterans Affairs to bar same-sex spouses from receiving protections - that it is not related to the military's commitment to caring for veteran families.

The Treasury Department and the IRS announced today that all legally married same-sex couples - regardless of where they live - will be fully respected by all federal tax programs, including income tax, gift and estate taxes, deductions, exemptions, retirement accounts, and child tax credit.

Today, the Department of Health and Human Services issued its first announcement about how it will be implementing the Supreme Court ruling from June 2013. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid have made clear that married same-sex couples living in the U.S. will be eligible for these services.
