Today, the New Jersey Supreme Court denied Gov. Christie's request to delay the start of marriages for same-sex couples in New Jersey. The NJ Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the marriage case in January 2014, but until a verdict is announced, same-sex couples will be permitted to marry in New Jersey, beginning on Monday, October 21, 2013.

Today, state officials in Oregon announced that effective immediately, Oregon would equally honor the marriages of same-sex couples who legally marry out of state.

Today is Spirit Day, an annual opportunity for the country to take a stand against bullying and wear purple in support of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans people across the country. Freedom to Marry is joining thousands of organizations and public figures in taking a stand against bullying by wearing purple and going purple on Facebook.

Today, a federal U.S. judge heard oral arguments in DeBoer v. Snyder, a federal lawsuit that challenges the 2004 law in Michigan that restricts marriage to different-sex couples. He announced that he will issue a written opinion and that the case will proceed to trial.

Last week, Love Inc. Magazine, a new online publication devoted to equally featuring love and commitment (and the fabulous wedding celebrations that accompany that love) between different-sex couples and same-sex couples. The fully integrated digital magazine showcases weddings for straight couples and same-sex couples, grabbing inspiration from weddings across the spectrum.

Today, the Buncombe County Register of Deeds in North Carolina, Drew Reisinger, began accepting applications from same-sex couples for marriage licenses, saying that he would formally request approval for granting the licenses from the NC Attorney General, Roy Cooper. Watch this great video from today's action.

It was a big weekend for marriage in the personal lives of the Freedom to Marry staff. One of our team members got engaged to her boyfriend on Friday, and one of our newest staffers tied the knot on Saturday afternoon.
