This weekend, on Saturday, March 9, Freedom to Marry's National Campaign Director Marc Solomon was presented with the Congressman Gerry E. Studds Visibility Award. The award honors "individuals of integrity and selflessness who embody the spirit of service and provide positive leadership for the LGBT community."

Quinnipiac University released the results of a new survey today that demonstrate increased support for the freedom to marry among a number of key demographics. Most notably, 54 percent of American Catholic voters surveyed said that they support marriage for same-sex couples.

Yesterday, four renowned Chicago athletes - including Chicago Cubs Hall-of-Famer Ernie Banks - urged legislators in Illinois to support the freedom to marry. "Discrimination is wrong, no matter whom the target is," they wrote in a joint letter.

This week, the tribal council of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, based in Michigan, approved a statute that would extend the freedom to marry to same-sex couples in the tribe. The tribe would become the third tribal nation to respect and perform marriages for same-sex couples.

On Friday, President Bill Clinton joined the chorus of voices calling on the Supreme Court to overturn the so-called Defense of Marriage Act, which prohibits federal respect for marriages between same-sex couples.

Today, Freedom to Marry and Third Way released a memo demonstrating that state legislators who vote in favor of marriage for same-sex couples continue to win voter support when running for reelection. The analysis demonstrates that 97% of state legislators who voted for the freedom to marry and ran for reelection won in 2012, compared to 90% of incumbent state legislators nationwide.
