Yesterday, a majority of voters in Washington approved Referendum 74, the ballot measure that upholds the freedom to marry in the state, which was passed by the state legislature with bipartisan support and signed by Gov. Christine Gregoire in February. Same-sex couples in WA will be able to attain marriage licenses beginning in early December.

Today, Maine became the first state in the country to approve the freedom to marry for same-sex couples via a majority vote on a ballot measure. This is a historic first, a shining symbol of how far the campaign to win marriage nationwide has come in recent years.
