On Monday, Maryland's Secretary of State released the approved language for the ballot initiative that will appear on the November 6 ballot in Maryland. The ballot initiative, Question 6, is entitled, the "Civil Marriage Protection Act."

This Fall, Freedom to Marry is launching the National Engagement Party, a nation-wide house party event that's designed to raise awareness and boost funds to increase the intensity of key ballot campaigns. The events will take place simultaneously on Saturday, October 13. Save the date!

Yesterday, Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders filed a petition for a writ of certiorari to the U.S. Supreme Court in its 'Pedersen v. Office of Personnel Management' lawsuit, meaning that GLAD is asking the Court to review their case at the federal level.

A week after the premier of Tasmania, Lara Giddings, said that she would push for the freedom to marry in her state, another Australian leader - South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill - has announced his support for ending the exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage.

Last week, Army Brigadier General Tammy Smith came out publicly for the first time during a promotion ceremony, where her wife, Tracey Hepner, pinned a new star to Brig. Gen. Smith's uniform. The promotion makes Brig. Gen. Smith the highest-ranking openly gay military figure currently serving.

On Saturday in Detroit, the Democratic Party Platform Committee voted unanimously to approve a plank supporting the freedom to marry in the Democratic Party's official national platform. Now, the platform will be reviewed at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC in September, where it is expected to be ratified.
