"A priest, a minister, and a rabbi walk into a bar..." So begins the well-known joke that usually ends in an inappropriate punchline. But last week, Minnesotans United for All Families employed the humorous conceit for thier latest video, which urges Minnesota voters that banning the freedom to marry in the state's constitution is not compatible with religious ideals.

Respondents from Nancy Gill, et al. and the individual plaintiffs in Gill v. Office of Personnel Management filed a brief to the Supreme Court in response to the Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group's (BLAG) recent writ of certiorari, which petitions the Supreme Court to hear a case.

Congressman Mike Thompson (D-CA) joined recent sponsors Ron Barber (D-AZ) and Silvestre Reyes (D-TX) as cosponsors for the Respect for Marriage Act last week. The Respect for Marriage Act, a bill that would overturn the so-called Defense of Marriage Act's legislation that currently prohibits federal recognition of marriages between same-sex couples, continues to gain support from elected officials - specifically Democrats.
Proposition 8 supporters file brief asking Supreme Court to uphold CA marriage ban

Supporters of California's Proposition 8, the November 2008 citizens' initiative that overturned the freedom to marry in California, filed a brief on Tuesday asking the Supreme Court to revisit the case and uphold the ban on marriage in the state. In the new brief, ProtectMarriage.com says that the court was wrong in determining that there was no legitimate government purpose for Prop. 8 during its review last February and are asking justices to hear their plea.
Vietnam to discuss legislation providing the freedom to marry

Officials from Vietnam's Justice ministry announced plans to consider the freedom to marry on Sunday. The Justice ministry will have until May to draft a proposal where the National Assembly will need to grant majority approval during their spring congress for the proposal to become a law.

This week, media conglomerate Viacom joined the ranks of Google, CBS, Zynga, Levi Strauss and others in filing court briefs opposing the so-called Defense of Marriage Act, while influential business leaders contribute record donations to the freedom to marry campaign. Amazon and Microsoft leaders have also contributed to the marriage campaign with hefty monetary donations.
