Scotland announces plans to bring freedom to marry bill to Parliament

On Wednesday, Scotland's Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon made an announcement that Scotland could soon have the freedom to marry, which would make it the first country in the United Kingdom. Proposing that a draft marriage bill come forward later this year, Scotland's National Party announced that ceremonies could take place start 2015.
Major pro-Republican hedge fund managers work to preserve the freedom to marry

Major pro-Republican hedge fund managers are donating funds to efforts aimed at preserving the freedom to marry in four ballot-states this November. A group of donors has collectively donated $1.5 million to Freedom to Marry's Win More States Fund, which directs funding to grassroots, on-the-ground efforts to fight for the freedom to marry at the ballot in Maryland, Minnesota, and Washington.

While the DREAM Act would benefit an array of undocumented youth, many LGBT individuals are leading the immigration movement - and that's not a coincidence. Many heterosexual DREAM Act-eligible youth have been able to get married and adjust their immigration status through sponsorship from a U.S. citizen spouse. But because of DOMA, undocumented youth in same-sex relationships don't have this immigration option. For them, the DREAM Act is that much more important.
State of Massachusetts requests Supreme Court hearing of Defense of Marriage Act

Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley called upon the Supreme Court on Tuesday, July 24 to take on lawsuits challenging Section 3 of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), the section of DOMA that defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman. Coakley's request is now the fifth request before the Supreme Court to take one or more of three DOMA cases.
