As part of our new national education campaign Why Marriage Matters, we're telling the stories of gay couples to show that they want to get married for the same reasons as anyone: love, family, and commitment. Kate and Nicole say they're doubly lucky – because they found each other, and because they were able to get married in their home state of California during the brief window when it was legal.

The chief justice of the California Supreme Court says a key decision on Prop 8 case could come as soon as next week. The federal appeals court is waiting for a decision from the state court on standing in the case.
