Today, Freedom to Marry launched a new step forward in the campaign to amplify support for marriage among our nation's mayors and demonstrate support among elected officials in every state in the country, Light Up the Map. The new goal set for the program is reaching 500 mayors representing all 50 states.

Today, Kasim Reed, mayor of Atlanta, Georgia, signed onto our Mayors for the Freedom to Marry coalition, which amplifies the voices of mayors across the country who support ending the exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage. The mayor's announcement today comes less than a week after the Atlanta City Council overwhelmingly passed a resolution in favor of the freedom to marry.
