LGBT federal employees can purchase health insurance for their pets, but not their partners

While federal employees can buy pet insurance “in these challenging economic times,” LGBT workers are still prohibited from purchasing policies for their partners or spouses by the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) — a federal law which denies federal benefits to legally married same sex couples.

Gov. Quinn says he believes civil unions could be legalized in Illinois before the end of the year.

Greens introduce freedom to marry bill in Australia

The Greens Party introduced a bill to legalize the freedom to marry in Australia's Parliament on 29 September.
The group Australian Marriage Equality is calling for a "conscience" vote on the bill, meaning individual MPs would be free to break from their party's official position.
