Yesterday, the Brazilian state of São Paulo announced that same-sex couples in the state will soon have the freedom to marry. São Paulo now joins Bahia and Alagoas as states in Brazil where same-sex couples can marry without additional obstacles.

Future Americans will look back on this moment with disdain, wondering why anyone would have thought it made sense to deny gays and lesbians the opportunity to serve their country in battle.
And, not only that, but generations to come will also find it curious that those who hold the institution of marriage sacred fought so hard to keep homosexuals from becoming old married folks.

A Los Angeles Superior Court commissioner granted Freedom to Marry Voice for Equality, Portia de Rossi's request to take the last name of her partner during a closed hearing Thursday. The television star will now legally be known as Portia Lee James DeGeneres.
