Last night, February 26, 2013, the Illinois House Executive Committee voted in favor of advancing a bill that would extend the freedom to marry for same-sex couples across the state of Illinois. The bill will now be heard by the full Illinois House of Representatives.

Today, the Illinois Senate voted in favor of a bill that would extend the freedom to marry to same-sex couples across the state. By a vote of 34-21, IL Senators stood on the Right Side of History and took this historic step toward making Illinois the tenth state to embrace the freedom to marry for all couples.

This week, Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton and Illinois Governor Pat Quinn delivered their "State of the State" addresses to outline overarching goals and priorities for 2013. Both governors used the opportunity to call for the freedom to marry and send a clear message to state residents that now is the time to end the exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage.

Today, Freedom to Marry announced a 2013 drive to raise and invest $2 million through the Win More States Fund, with an initial goal of passing marriage bills in several states across the country - Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, and Rhode Island.

This afternoon, the Illinois Senate Executive Committee voted in favor of advancing a bill that would extend the freedom to marry to same-sex couples across the state.
