Today, May 26, the Parliament of Greenland unanimously approved the freedom to marry for same-sex couples. The vote marks a big step forward for marriage for same-sex couples and shows that support and momentum are building around the world.

This week, the state of Coahuila in Mexico became the first state in the country to approve the freedom to marry in the state legislature. The state joins the Federal District and Quintana Roo in extending the freedom to marry to all same-sex couples.

As of May 2014, 10 percent of the world's population now lives in a place where same-sex couples are free to marry. Out of a global population of approximately 7.177 billion people, 718 million now live in a freedom-to-marry jurisdiction.
