Cayman Islands lawmakers voted to ban gay and lesbian couples' marriages following a debate Friday in the Legislative Assembly. The bill still requires the legal formality of a third vote before passing, but lawmakers unanimously approved a key second vote on the measure Friday afternoon. Brazil's lower house of Congress has rejected part of a pending adoption law that would have allowed gay couples to adopt children. A Wednesday statement from the Chamber of Deputies says a measure giving gay couples the right to adopt was withdrawn because federal law doesn't recognize same-sex unions. [Link]

In the correspondence, an exchange with an evangelical Christian, the Archbishop of Canterbury argued that passages criticising homosexual activity were not aimed at people who were gay by nature.
