Freedom to Marry announces $200,000 matching grant for Maine’s ‘Yes on 1’

Today, Freedom to Marry announced a pledge to match donations up to $200,000 to the "Yes on 1" campaign through the end of September. The $200,000 contribution from our Win More States Fund would bring our total investment in Maine to $1 million this year.

Today, Mainers United for Marriage, a coalition of Maine organizations working to end the exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage, officially launched the Yes on 1 campaign, the next phase in the state's historic push to proactively approve the freedom to marry at the ballot.

The spot features Dan and Pat Lawson, a couple from Monroe, Maine that has been married for 30 years, talking about their twin sons, one of whom is gay.
‘Win More States Fund’ reaches $3 million goal for investment in state campaigns

This week, Freedom to Marry matched its initial 2012 goal of raising and investing $3 million in three battleground states where marriage will appear on the ballot in November. The organization will continue working to raise funds for these campaigns, which need more than $10 million in order to secure wins.

Today, The Portland Press Herald in Maine released the results from a survey that asked Maine voters whether they support the citizen's initiative in the state to pass the freedom to marry. The poll found that 57% of respondents say they support the freedom to marry in Maine, while only 35% say they are opposed.
