Today marks the ninth anniversary of the first weddings between same-sex couples in Massachusetts! Now, less than ten years after that historic day in Massachusetts, same-sex couples across the New England region have the freedom to marry.

Today, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino announced he would not seek reelection for a sixth term. Freedom to Marry thanked Mayor Menino today for all of his advocacy for ending the exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage during his tenure.

This weekend, on Saturday, March 9, Freedom to Marry's National Campaign Director Marc Solomon was presented with the Congressman Gerry E. Studds Visibility Award. The award honors "individuals of integrity and selflessness who embody the spirit of service and provide positive leadership for the LGBT community."

State of Massachusetts requests Supreme Court hearing of Defense of Marriage Act

Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley called upon the Supreme Court on Tuesday, July 24 to take on lawsuits challenging Section 3 of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), the section of DOMA that defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman. Coakley's request is now the fifth request before the Supreme Court to take one or more of three DOMA cases.
