One of the speakers at our Young Conservatives launch event was Craig Stowell, who has spoken before about the intersections of his work as an advocate for the freedom to marry and his conservative ideology. Craig is a former member of the U.S. Marine Corps, and he asserts that he doesn't support marriage for all couples in spite of his conservative values, but rather because of them.

Today, the New Hampshire House of Representatives voted down legislation that would have repealed the state’s two-year-old freedom to marry law along with a key vote to defeat the Bates Amendment, which would have forced a non-binding referendum on marriage onto the November ballot and replaced marriage with civil unions.

Today, the Washington Blade reported that 22 senators have joined a growing number of politicians and advocates who have endorsed including a freedom to marry plank in the Democratic Party’s 2012 national platform.

Today, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) announced she is joining Freedom to Marry in urging the Democratic Party to include a freedom to marry plank in the 2012 Party Platform.

During his state-of-the-state address today in Concord, New Hampshire's Governor John Lynch reiterated that he will veto legislation that seeks to repeal marriage for same-sex couples.

The House Judiciary Committee voted unanimously to hold on to a pair bills aiming to take away the freedom to marry in the state, avoiding a repeal that would be would be hugely unpopular with the public.
