Evan Wolfson, executive director of Freedom to Marry, said there is also reason for hope in Massachusetts.
"The new legislature has more pro-marriage legislators combined with a new pro-marriage governor. This will allow wiser heads to prevail. If it gets on the ballot, we will defeat it, but I would rather spend our resources for other states in their battles for marriage equality."

Gay couples who marry in Massachusetts and move to Wyoming would suddenly find themselves single if some Wyoming legislators have their way: A bill has been introduced that would allow Wyoming to void same-sex marriages granted by other states. "I don't know where the fear of a mass influx of married gay people entering Wyoming and demanding recognition comes from," said the Rev. Bob Spencer, social change coordinator for Wyoming Equality. "I cannot envision hordes of (married gay) couples from Massachusetts, England, Canada, Amsterdam or any place like that thronging to Wyoming at any point in near future." [link]

What a monumental hypocritical bigot GOP Gov. Sonny Perdue is. He thought it was a great idea for the people to decide at the ballot box whether or not gays and lesbians have the right to marry (and an amendment passed easily in 2004), but when legislation that would allow a direct vote on whether beer and wine should be sold on Sundays — Perdue said that he'd pull out the veto pen. According to the study released last week by the Pew Research Center, an estimated 47 percent of adults ages 18-25 support legalizing gay and lesbian marriages. By comparison, an estimated 30 percent of adults age 26 and older back marriage equality. [Link]

If she and Charlene Strong, were wed in a commitment ceremony nearly nine years ago had been legal spouses, the decisions that came next would have been made quickly, albeit painfully. But Strong was initially denied the right to visit Fleming in the hospital as she lay dying.
