Today is Spirit Day, an annual opportunity for the country to take a stand against bullying and wear purple in support of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans people across the country. Freedom to Marry is joining thousands of organizations and public figures in taking a stand against bullying by wearing purple and going purple on Facebook.

Today, the Buncombe County Register of Deeds in North Carolina, Drew Reisinger, began accepting applications from same-sex couples for marriage licenses, saying that he would formally request approval for granting the licenses from the NC Attorney General, Roy Cooper.
