As an active member of the armed forces, Jenn Veryzer fought to help end the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy that prohibited gay men and lesbians from serving openly, and she kept her relationship secret. Today, she hopes to become an advocate for marriage and protect her new family.

Two weeks ago, with a historic election looming and several vacation days to use up before the end of the year, I took a Volunteer Vacation through United for Marriage and traded in my communications hat for a stab at field organizing.

So today, Freedom to Marry, Equality PA, and Courage Campaign are launching our "Tell Casey to Commit" campaign.

This Friday, Violeta Pando will find out whether or not she will be separated from her wife, Sujey, who faces deportation back to Mexico. Although Violeta and Sujey are legally married, the federal government will not allow Violeta to sponsor Sujey because the so-called Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) keeps the government from recognizing their marriage for the purposes of immigration.
