This week, over 100 religious leaders in Rhode Island from 13 different faith denominations came together to speak out in favor of the freedom to marry in the state. The faith leaders said they would continue working to increase public support for ending the exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage.

In the 2011-2012 election cycle, when four states have been gearing up for months for marriage-related ballot initiatives at the polls, we've seen more people of faith than ever speaking out in support of the freedom to marry. The past few weeks have brought out even more support for marriage among people of faith in Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, and Washington.

Yesterday, Washington United for Marriage, the coalition working to uphold the freedom to marry in Washington, released two new television advertisements that will begin airing across the state. Both of the ads discuss the role of religion in Washington residents' support for the freedom to marry.

But last week, Minnesotans United for All Families employed the humorous conceit for thier latest video, which urges Minnesota voters that banning the freedom to marry in the state's constitution is not compatible with religious ideals.

This weekend, a group of Catholics in Baltimore, Maryland will hold a rally and discussion in support of the freedom to marry for all couples. The group will be discussing strategies for ensuring that the freedom to marry is upheld in Maryland when it goes to the ballot in November.
