Today, a new public education spot hit televisions in Minnesota, where voters face a ballot measure that could limit the freedom to marry in the state. The new ad features retired U.S. Marine Corps member Fred Petersen and his wife Yvonne, Minnesota residents whose grandson is gay.

One of the speakers at our Young Conservatives launch event was Craig Stowell, who has spoken before about the intersections of his work as an advocate for the freedom to marry and his conservative ideology. Craig is a former member of the U.S. Marine Corps, and he asserts that he doesn't support marriage for all couples in spite of his conservative values, but rather because of them.

Today in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Freedom to Marry's National Campaign Director Marc Solomon testified before the Democratic Party Platform Drafting Committee on the importance of marriage for same-sex couples. Tomorrow, Chief Warrant Officer Charlie Morgan of the New Hampshire National Guard, and her wife, Karen, will share their own testimony, explaining the ways in which the so-called Defense of Marriage Act harms them and other same-sex couples.

Tonight, during the Olympic Opening Ceremonies, two new television advertisements will debut in Washington and Maine to make the case for the freedom to marry. The ads feature people speaking out about why marriage matters to them and why the support the freedom to marry for all couples. The debuts come at a critical time - we're just 100 days away from the November 6, 2012 election, when voters in Washington and Maine will be asked to vote on marriage at the ballot.

Last night, Houston mayor Annise Parker, one of the chairs of our Mayors for the Freedom to Marry campaign, was a featured guest on Comedy Central's The Colbert Report. She spoke about her partner, discussed why marriage matters, and referenced the 250 other mayors who stand with her in advocating for the freedom to marry.
