Breaking: Illinois House passes civil union bill

A bill that would establish civil unions in Illinois has just passed the state's House of Representatives by a vote of 61-52. The bill now heads to the Senate where it is likely to pass. The bill passed a senate committee earlier today early today.

Gov. Patrick Quinn has promised to sign the bill into law should it reach his desk.

Passage of the bill into law would be an important step towards full recognition and respect for same-sex couples and their families.
