Freedom to Marry and Shiraz Events announce winners of Wedding Registry contest

This week, Freedom to Marry and Shiraz Events announced the winners of a contest focused on our "Wedding Registry" program, through which couples planning wedding celebrations can ask friends and family to make a donation to allow same-sex couples the freedom to marry in lieu of purchasing a gift.

For the past two weeks, any couple who started a Wedding Registry with Freedom to Marry was entered into a drawing to win free wedding planning services from Jason Mitchell Kahn, wedding planner at Shiraz Events, the award-winning design, production, wedding planning and catering company. Jason is also the author of Getting Groomed: The Ultimate Wedding Planner for Gay Grooms

Yesterday, Jason came to the Freedom to Marry offices in New York to select the winning couple. The winners are Sarah and Ben from St. Louis Park, Minnesota. Jason announced the winner and voiced his excitement for helping the couple plan their big day:

I’m so excited to meet the couple who will receive our planning services and work with them to make their wedding unforgettable. As someone who is legally married and benefited from the hard work of Freedom to Marry, it is an honor to give to a couple who is raising money for such an important organization.”

Sarah and Ben were thrilled to be selected as the winners. They told Freedom to Marry:

We are so honored to win!! We are very excited for our upcoming wedding in October, and hope that someday soon all couples will have the freedom to marry!

Freedom to Marry thanks Jason Mitchell Kahn and Shiraz Events for their generous donation of their wedding planning services to the cause of winning the freedom to marry for all couples. Through this special partnership, Freedom to Marry can continue making the case that all couples in every state who wish to can celebrate their special wedding day.
