Freedom to Marry gears up for Amsterdam Pride - Join Us!

Next month, Freedom to Marry staff members and board members will travel from the United States to the Netherlands - the first country to pass the freedom to marry for same-sex couples - for Amsterdam Pride, an annual celebration of the LGBT community.

The Freedom to Marry float - decorated in red, white, and blue - in the boat parade on the canal will commemorate the great synergy of American and Dutch progress on LGBT rights by sailing through 400 hundred year old canals while being cheered on by half a million spectators. The Freedom to Marry float will be the first-ever American participant, part of the VIP line-up, and have the largest float on the water for 100 exclusive guests with open bar, lunch, entertainment, and beautiful views.

You can join Freedom to Marry for this unique experience. The weekend of festivities begins on Friday, August 1 with an arrival party and welcome party before Saturday's big canal parade celebration, where attendees will have VIP Boat Access and Sunday's farewell brunch. Buy your ticket HERE.

The Amsterdam Pride event stems from Linda Steen, a celebrity chef, and her wife Louise Doorn, an Executive Director at JP Morgan Chase. When they moved from Amsterdam to New York three years ago, they were surprised to see that the U.S. government did not respect many of their rights and protections as a married couple: Coming to the United States after living in the Netherlands presented something of a culture shock - they realized that rights and protections for gay and lesbian people were seen as a privilege.

Now, we're lucky to be joining together with Linda and Louise across the pond in their home country for Amsterdam Pride. After all, the campaign to win marriage nationwide in the United States truly impacts LGBT rights worldwide.
