WATCH: ‘Living in Limbo’ documentary showcases lesbian families in Alabama

Hearts and minds are changing across America at an increasingly rapid pace: With recent polling showing an all-time high of 50% of Southerners supporting the freedom to marry for same-sex couples, it’s clear that we’re making progress – but there’s still much work to do.
In partnership with 16 state and regional organizations and 14 honorary co-chairs, Freedom to Marry launched Southerners for the Freedom to Marry in February of this year – a first-of-its-kind public education campaign to grow public support to a solid majority in the Southern states.
As a part of our continued focus on winning the South as an integral part the Roadmap to Victory and setting the stage for a national resolution at the Supreme Court, Freedom to Marry is proud to be a partner of State & Union: Lesbian Families Living in the Deep South.
A Living in Limbo documentary, State & Union “depicts real-life stories of lesbians in the Deep South that include pain and perseverance, strength and humor.” Inspired by the highly acclaimed photography exhibition Living in Limbo: Lesbian Families in the Deep South, which features photographs by Carolyn Sherer, this documentary focuses on families living in Birmingham, Alabama.
