PHOTOS: Young Conservatives for the Freedom to Marry launches

Earlier this week, Freedom to Marry launched our newest campaign, Young Conservatives for the Freedom to Marry, our initiatve to amplify the voices of young people who identify as conservative, Republican, or Libertarian and support the freedom to marry. The launch event was held on Tuesday, July 10 in Washington, D.C., and we saw over one hundred young people come together to meet, discuss ideas, and talk about why the freedom to marry in a conservative value and not a partisan issue.

A number of speakers kicked off the event, including Freedom to Marry's National Campaign Director, Marc Solomon. Members of the Young Conservatives leadership committee, including Marine Corps veteran Craig Stowell and government relations professional Torrey Shearer, also spoke. Finally, Florida Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, the only GOP sponsor of the Respect for Marriage Act - the bill that would repeal the anti-gay Defense of Marriage Act - spoke about her commitment to the project.

She said:

This is more than just about sexual orientation, it's about the fundamental rights that we all share as Americans. It's bad enough we have to deal with the over-regulation of our economy. No one should have to deal with the government red tape when it comes to committing themselves to those whom they love. So with your help, our country will indeed continue on its path towards that most perfect union for each and every one of us.

We also set up a photo booth at the reception so that our attendees could proudly express themselves as Young Conservatives for the Freedom to Marry. Take a look at those photos below!
