Watch: Colorado veterans talk about why marriage matters in new TV ad

This week, Why Marriage Matters Colorado, a coalition of state and national organizations in Colorado committed to securing marriage for all families in the state, launched a new statewide television spot featuring a group of local veterans taking a stand for the freedom to marry.

The spot features former Army Staff Sgt. Izzy Abbass, retired U.S. Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Dennis Mont’Ros, and former Marine Sgt. Will Glenn, who speak out in support of their openly gay friend and comrade, U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant T. Ashley Metcalf. Together, the men represent a collective 45 years of military service.

In the 30-second ad, former Staff Sgt. Abbass highlights Sgt. Metcalf’s service in Iraq and Afghanistan, saying, "He should have the same freedoms we have, and that includes the freedom to marry."

The ad amplifies and echoes the growing majority of voters across Colorado - and across the nation - who support the freedom to marry for same-sex couples.

Freedom to Marry is proud to serve as a leader in the production and distribution of the ad as part of our work with Why Marriage Matters Colorado. As a leading and founding member of Why Marriage Matters Colorado, we are proud to stand alongside our partners at One Colorado and the ACLU of Colorado to build this broad-based campaign to foster a robust conversation about same-sex couples and their families in the state.
