Today, Governor Chris Christie vetoed a freedom to marry bill that would make New Jersey the eighth state in the nation to end the exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage, setting the stage for work to line up the votes needed to override the veto and make the bill law.

New Jersey Legislature passes marriage bill
Today the New Jersey Assembly voted 42 to 33 to pass A. 1, the bill that would extend the freedom to marry to gay and lesbian couples in the Garden State. The Assembly vote follows a 24-16 vote passing a marriage bill in the state Senate earlier this week.
