Troy Perry, plaintiff, will also attend, along with their attorney in the previous and current case, Gloria Allred.

Same-sex couples who are not married are invited to attend the service and then apply for marriage licenses at the Courthouse. Married couples are invited to join in the action, but should not apply for marriage licenses as they are already married.

Illinois

Dedicate your Valentine's Day to love

Host:
Chicago-Area LGBTQA Liberation Network
Saturday, February 14, 2009
11:00am - 12:30pm

Location:
in front of the Cook County Marriage License Bureau (across the street from the Daley Plaza)
118 N. Clark Street
Chicago, IL

Let's keep up the momentum to win marriage equality! In March the California Supreme Court will hear oral arguments over whether or not to junk the anti-gay Proposition 8 and legally restore California same-sex marriages. Their decision is expected within 90 days after that. While they rarely admit it, courts frequently respond to public pressure. You can help build the pro-gay momentum – and sway the court's decision – by making this year's Freedom to Marry Day protest (aka Valentine's Day) the biggest yet.

In Chicago we will gather at 11 AM Sharp, Saturday, February 14th across the street from Daley Plaza (118 N. Clark Street). A group will then go to the Cook County Marriage License Bureau and demand that it issue marriage licenses to those same-sex couples who want them. In doing so we will be joining in Freedom to Marry Week activities happening across the nation.

So email, Facebook, twitter your friends to BE THERE: 11 AM Sharp, Saturday, February 14th, 118 N. Clark Street, Chicago.

Pdf flyers and posters are available now at http://gayliberation.net/home.html Print them out and distribute them in your neighborhood, or call 773.209.1187 to find out how you can join one of our publicity teams!

On National Freedom to Marry Day, Thursday, February 12, 2009, at local marriage counters in cities all over the country, same-sex couples will request marriage licenses at their local County Clerk's Offices to raise awareness of the harms and impact that the inability to marry causes on their families. This national event is hosted yearly by Marriage Equality USA (MEUSA) and this year they have asked Join the Impact for our help to make this their largest Marriage Counter Action yet!

We are looking for couples interested in doing this with us. It would be great if we could have couple after couple going up to the marriage counter to try to get a license!

If you would like to participate but your partner can't then just make a note in your RSVP. We can "buddy" up into couples for the event.

And, if you would just like to come along and show support that's great too. Please indicate in your RSVP if you are interested in trying to obtain a marriage license or if you will be there to show support.

More details coming soon (including the exact time). We will be discussing this at the BBQ at Dane's on January 25th and at our monthly meeting at the Sahara West Library on February 10th. (See event calendar to RSVP for those events).

This should be a unique experience!

Time may Change Keep posted!

On February 12, 2009, LGBT couples nationwide will participate in the drive for marriage equality by celebrating National Freedom to Marry Day. As part of this national day of action, the William Way Community Center will host its first ever Interfaith Breakfast: "Marriage Equality, Contract or Covenant" through its Out and Faithful program.

Many opponents of same-sex marriage frame it as a religious or spiritual debate. This breakfast will feature renowned keynote speaker Harry Knox who will discuss the spiritual movement for marriage equality nationwide and why more than 4000 faith leaders have endorsed marriage equality despite numerous and recent legislation prohibiting same-sex marriage.

Knox will also discuss what faith leaders can do to provide pastoral support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people whose lives are affected by the current policy debate about marriage. As the former program director at Freedom to Marry and currently the director of the Religion and Faith Program at the Human Rights Campaign, Knox is uniquely positioned to speak insightfully and passionately about this topic that affects so many in our community.

The Interfaith Breakfast is a catered event that will feature a healthy, kosher meal in the Mark Segal Ballroom of the Center. Interested congregations can purchase a table of eight for $280 by calling Candice Thompson, Director of Center Services, at 215-732-2220 or can visit the Web site at www.waygay.org.

The Out and Faithful Program of the Center was created in 2006 in conjunction with the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender Community Center in New York City. The program brings together LGBT people of all faiths, as well as those of no faith tradition, to discuss and explore religious and spiritual issues.

For additional info, contact Candice Thompson at firstrep@waygay.org or call 215.732-2220

Utah

An Annual Marriage Counter Action Comes to SLC

Host:
Utahns for Marriage Equality

Thursday, February 12, 2009
12:00pm - 1:00pm

Salt Lake County Clerk, Marriage License Division
2001 South State Street #S2200
Salt Lake City, UT

Attention All Same Sex Couples.....

Utahns for Marriage Equality is a Member Organization of Marriage Equality uSA and on National Freedom to Marry Day, all Marriage Equality USA Chapters and Member Organizations will participate in Marriage Equality USA's National Freedom to Marry Events. Marriage Equality USA has also partnered with Join the Impact for this national event. Thursday, February 12, 2009, at local marriage counters in cities all over the country, same-sex couples will request marriage licenses at their local County Clerk’s Offices to raise awareness of the harms and impact the inability to marry causes on their families.

Since 2001, Marriage Equality USA chapters have engaged in these annual marriage counter actions to render visible the discrimination that is enforced every day. It is an affront to our basic dignity as fellow human beings when same-sex couples are turned away from the marriage counter, but it gives us the opportunity to tell our stories and show that we live in every community and want to honor and protect our families like everyone else. Everyone who supports marriage equality is welcomed to attend and support this event.

Our plan will to meet outside the building at 12pm, walk in together, have our couples attempt to apply for marriage licenses, and then we will reconvene outside for a brief press conference.
