The Big Commit: Exchanging Vows With Equality
WHO: A coalition of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, and intersex (LGBTQI) activists and allies, together with diverse intersecting organizations and communities of faith, are organizing a rally, The Big Commit, an action that aims to strengthen our commitment of working towards full federal equality, affirming the importance of ALL families, and sending a message of support, tolerance, and inclusion.
The National Organization of Marriage (NOM), has planned an appearance in Washington, DC, on August 15th, the finale of their "One Woman, One Man" Summer for Marriage Tour. NOM's tour has hosted rallies in nineteen cities orchestrated to collect anti-LGBT propaganda, increase donations, and garner support for their intolerant cause.
WHAT: The Big Commit will be a peaceful rally with visible community support for marriage equality that is includes ALL families. The event will be in three parts: a rally with speakers that represent a diverse picture of marriage supporters in Washington, DC; "Exchanging Vows with Equality," recommitting our community to unify in the fight against injustice and inequality, especially as it pertains to marriage equality; followed by an ice cream social. What a wonderful day! Can your organization join in and participate meaningfully?
