Ask Senator Collins to cosponsor the Respect for Marriage Act
As thousands of same-sex couples in Maine are doing the hard work of raising kids and building families, they shouldn't have to worry that the so-called Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) will deny them the ability to protect their families when they need to most. DOMA treats committed gay and lesbian couples as strangers and denies over 1,000 protections that other legally married couples are afforded.
The Respect for Marriage Act has been introduced in the House and Senate but Senator Susan Collins has yet to sign on as a cosponsor. Senator Collins helped lead the charge to repeal the discriminatory "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, and now it's time for her to help bring an end to federal marriage discrimination.
Will you join Freedom to Marry, EqualityMaine, Courage Campaign, Maine Women's Lobby and the ACLU of Maine in asking Senator Collins to cosponsor the bill that will repeal DOMA once and for all?
