In 2007, West Virginia's state legislature blocked an anti-marriage and anti-relationship recognition constitutional amendment from advancing to a vote. State advocacy groups continue to work towards ending the exclusion of same-sex couples and their families from marriage.

Gary Gates at the Williams Institute released groundbreaking research
on the geographic trends among same-sex couples. The report finds the
biggest increases in Southern and Mountain states and states barring
legal acceptance of same-sex couples had larger percentage increases
in same-sex couples from 2000 to 2006.

The Commitment Ceremony was very nice — held at a local park in the late summer. The program was designed by Tina with all of the artwork being hers. She and Sandra had picked out some very appropriate poetry to be read by various friends and it was beautiful. Both of them were activists and yesterday I re-read, with great interest, a statement that they had made in the program.
