Next week Freedom to Marry Executive Director Evan Wolfson will be
speaking at two of the Midwest's top law schools – the University of Michigan
and Ohio State University. Both states have constitutional amendments passed in
2004 that bar marriage and civil unions.
On Monday January 17 Evan will be the keynote speaker for the University of Michigan Law School’s observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day – a fitting occasion to talk about civil rights struggles of the past and the present.
On Tuesday January 18 Evan will take part in a forum at Ohio State's Moritz College of Law, looking at the freedom to marry from a constitutional perspective. The panel will also feature University of North Carolina Professor Holning Lau and Ohio State Professor Marc Spindelman. The event is being sponsored by the local chapters of the ACLU, the American Constitutional Society, and LGBT organization the OutLaws.
