Speaking on the freedom to marry, President Clinton called for the formation of a "more perfect union" this week. An inspiring political figure, Clinton elaborated on his decision to join in the cause alongside thousands of other New Yorkers. "[Our nation's] mission has inspired and empowered us to extend rights to people previously denied them. Every time we have done that it has strengthened our nation," he said.
Once opposed to the idea that all loving and committed couples ought to share equally in the freedom to marry, Clinton's evolved position sends an unequivocal message that now is the time for New York to pass legislation allowing same-sex couples to join in marriage.
