Buffalo News calls on New York Senate to pass the marriage bill
May 09, 2011

As momentum for the freedom to marry continues to build in New York, the Buffalo News has come out in strong support of the marriage bill. In an editorial published on Monday, the paper calls on state Senators from Western New York to take action to end the exclusion of gay and lesbian couples from marriage:
"The Assembly has repeatedly approved same-sex marriage in the past and Cuomo supports legalization. The Senate has been the obstruction, but enough has changed in the last year to offer a degree of hope.
Momentum has shifted, and we hope Western New York’s Senate delegation—Republicans George Maziarz, Michael Ranzenhofer, Mark Grisanti, Patrick Gallivan and Catharine Young and Democrat Timothy M. Kennedy—will have the courage to walk away from years of official discrimination. Their leadership will be crucial to passage of a bill."
